    October Baseball

As the World Series approaches and I think about the cities that these two teams will come from. I can’t help, but think about the excitement and joyous nature that was almost everywhere you went when our Philadelphia Phillies were knocking on the doors of the World Series.
I have been a Phillies fan my entire life. When they were terrible in the later 90’s and earlier 2000’s, I remember. It was tough. Never going to the playoffs, barely making 500, if at all. And then the Phillies moved to Citizens Bank Park and Jim Thome was the man to save the Phillies. It was almost like a 360. All of a sudden the Phillies were the team to beat. We were spoiled for the past five years. Always winning something, always playing some kind of October baseball. But here we are in October and there is no Phillies baseball.
At night, you can watch former Phillie Hunter Pence play for a ring. Or maybe you prefer to watch former Phillie Raul Ibanez. The only time I enjoy watching the Cardinals is when the Giants are beating them. Yes, I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the 2011 postseason.
As much as I wish the Phillies were currently involved in the pennant race, I have to say I have been enjoying watching baseball, emotion free. It has given me a chance to be a baseball fan. Of course, I have no interest in watching the Yankees win yet another World Series. And I don’t want to see the Cardinals win two in a row. So, I can’t say I’m not rooting for certain teams. But this postseason as given me a chance to enjoy the game of baseball, without possibly having my heart ripped out.
With that being said, I cannot wait until next year! Spring training cannot get here soon enough. Over the winter I think the team will begin to make the changes it needs and prepare for the incredible 2013 season. I know some of the changes will be monumental, but I think our Phillies are ready. Some of them remember what it was like parading down Broad Street. I know I do.
But for right now I’ll sit back and epitomize with the people of the cities of Detroit, The Bronx, St. Louis and San Francisco. I remember watching every game, every pitch. And if we won, I would do the same things during the next game, wear the same shirt, eat the same food. At the end of the day, I gave my all in hoping for a Phillies victory. But not this year. This year another city will get a chance to celebrate. And good for them. Every team in the postseason right now deserves to be there. But don’t get too excited, the Fightins will be back next year and with vengeance unlike any other season. We play our best baseball in October.
